Children Follow in the Footsteps of Knights in Raitbach
As part of the City of Schopfheim’s summer vacation program, the Raitbach Music Association organized a scavenger hunt following in the footsteps of the knights in Raitbach. Under the theme “Raitbach in the Age of Knights,” on August 1, the numerous young participants embarked on an exciting journey back in time to the Middle Ages, including a guided tour of the Turmhölzle ruins led by the Friends of the Turmhölzle Ruins.
After a welcome at the Musikhaus, where Lady Susanne and her maid Natalie introduced the children to the world of medieval music, an adventurous treasure hunt began. A mysterious treasure map led the group across meadows and through the forest to the Turmhölzle. Along the way, they had to solve tricky puzzles, collect clues, and finally find the key to the treasure chest . Even the “guardians” of the Turmhölzle—a herd of Highland cattle —presented the little knights and damsels with one last challenge.
Once they arrived near the castle ruins, the treasure was finally discovered in the forest . Afterward, Wolfgang Richter guided the children through the ruins and took them on a journey into the past. Along the way, they learned many interesting facts about the history of the Turmhölzle and how the nobility might have lived here around 900 years ago. In this way, history came to life at an authentic site and became a vivid experience for the children.
After the successful treasure hunt, everyone enjoyed a snack at the barbecue hut with “dragon eggs” and “knight’s skewers.” As a memento of this eventful day, each child received a postcard of the castle ruins and a soda.
